i am in a pickle.

i need to decide how to style my hair and makeup for my wedding day which is right around the corner (feb. 14!), since i will be doing them myself.

my dress is a maxi, one shoulder slinky gown, very simple, very comfortable.

i widened the middle column, if you can even tell, (if there is a problem with my blog fitting into your computer screen, let me know- im new to this whole html editing thing) and i added a bloglovin' button on the lefthand side. i think i also want to change my header, like make it more sophisticated and narrow and add an 'about me' page. i will surely need to research how to do this...it doesnt seem simple. if anyone has blog makeover suggestions, i would love to hear!

after sleeping in till 1 pm today, i woke up and whipped up ~~breakfast~~ lunch of toasted tortillas with chicken, black beans, corn, spinach and cheese. it was really tasty but the tortillas definetly did not stay in-tact so it was ~~kind of~~ really messy.
oh well...you live, you learn. it made for some laughs.

im hitting up the gym later on to work on my arms. gotta get these babies in shape, seeing as im going to wear a one-sleeved wedding dress :) im glad i finally hopped on the workout boat, i feel like i can really tighten up my body in time for summer (and thailand!). but its not only about working out, its about eating healthier. in smaller portions and more frequently. just wanted to share some of the yummy salads i have been indulging in :

one of my favorites: cucumber, tomato, hard boiled egg, carrot, feta cheese, turkey, roasted sunflower seeds, onion and red wine vinegrette

also! i wanted to share a super cute up-do i succeeded in recreating. inspired by this twisted pony, but i made it a little bun & i got so many compliments on it.

also! my bestie just got back from a way cool adventure from new york for christmas and canada for new years and she sent me a HOT v-day card & picked me up a little present.

this past rainy weekend, boyfriend and i pulled ourselves out of bed at 11 and were immediatly struck by hunger. we decided to throw on some clothes and hop over to cafe greg in afula for some breakfast and conversation. dekel is so cute, on the drive over he was like "i like when we go to breakfast, it means we talk about our future." awww! but hes so right, we find ourselves talking and getting wound up in our near future plans. but, i honestly feel like we have found a great balance of living in the now and looking forward to the future, which i think is really important. i really need to have things to look forward to, im sure everyone can relate. it helps me get through the ~~weeks~~ months without family and best friends around. but dekel and i also take time to go on weekly dates and talk about our current situations, which i find keeps me grounded. i have found my match =)

i am not a girl who has planned or even thought about my wedding since i was little. actaully, up until recently i didnt even see the need to get married. im just one of those who doesnt think a piece of paper can bound anyone to staying together forever, i think its up to the people in the relationship. however, circumstances change and unfortunatly, in our society, being married simplifies things. so were gettin' hitched! i have been engaged for only one week, but we plan on marrying within one month (feb. 14th to be exact) so i need to narrow down some things that i see important for our special day. i have to find a dress, accessories and make some decisions. i am not frantic about it, but i will probably order a dress from the states which will take 2 weeks to get here and if it will need alterations then thats another few days. so i need to get on it and order it, like now. i have decided i want a grecian style, maxi dress. something simple that i can dress up with a pretty flower crown. i will wear my hair down, wavy and natural and i will do my own make up and i apply it as i normally do. i want dekel to recognize me, plus i hate a bride who has overdone it. with my maxi dress i will wear nude pumps left over from my best friend molly's wedding and i will bring some cute sandals to wear on the beach afterward.

so...i got engaged this past weekend!
im like so akward about it because im not like screaming from the rooftops and i feel like im not enthusiastic enough. it has nothing to do with how much i love dekel, because im madly in love with him. the thing is that we had talked about getting married before so i knew it was coming. i just didnt know when or where. i didnt even know he would actually ask me to marry him, since we had already talked about it and agreed it was something we would do in the near future. but it was so sweet and he totally caught me off-guard and im so happy. we are so happy. we plan on flying to a nearby greek island called cyprus to marry in a civil ceremony and then celebrating with friends and family in israel and then again in dallas when we move back next year.

i think i will make these "my weekend will consist of..." posts a permanent thing. it has a cute ring to it & it motivates me to try new things over the ~~weekend~~ 1 day i have off from school / work. last weekends attempt at a two-toned mani was a flop, i dont have that pretty, glittery maroon nail polish- so i tired with gold and it looked terrible. plus i was antsy & didnt wait for the 2 coats of black to dry before putting tape on my fingers so when i removed the tape, some of the polish smudged. im thinking tape is not the way to go...maybe i need to try a sticky post-it instead.
any other ideas?

but on the other hand, the southwestern eggrolls that i we tried turned out so yummy! as i have complained about before, they dont have mexican food in israel, meaning...i was shit outta luck when trying to find "mexican blend cheese," so i used feta and parmesean instead. also i could not find eggroll or wonton wrappers at the grocery store (seriously the asian foods section is not even a shelf!) so i picked up rice papers which i figured could be substituted. its not that they didnt work, but my "eggrolls" turned out paper thin and the taste came only from the filling, there was no real 'crunch' to the eggroll. but the product was flavorful with a kick, we even made salad with the leftover filling the next day and added chicken. yum! highly suggested. the avacado ranch wasnt bad either, buttermilk doesnt exist here so i googled how to make it at home and it was easy: 1 cup milk + teaspoon lemon juice. weird, huh?

anyways, so this weekend my weekend will consist of...

it was funny looking back at last year's nye post because boyfriend and i did the same thing this year! the convienience of having a pub-by-day, club-by-night within walking distance from your residence is too good to be true. not too easy to come by in good 'ol dallas. anyways, so, we walked to the bar and stood in line to get into the party that was thumpin with 20-somethings. when i saw that waiting patiently wasnt getting us anywhere, i decided to ~~use~~ take advantage of my secret weapon. english. i walked us right up to the gate-keeper and asked, naively, in english, what it took to get in. just like that she asked for id and let us in the side entrance, past all the pushers and shovers in line. we stumbled inside, took a shot of vodka and then the countdown to 2012 began. sparklers were lit and midnight was announced and it was so fun to dance the night away. we rocked our kanye sunnies that my friend molly brought us when she visited. fyi- i totally went to the party in a black turtleneck sweater, but shed that thing after about 10 minutes of gettin' down. it. got. hot.

i have a holiday work party coming up on the 4th. its a celebration of hannukah & the new year. of course, my dillemma is what to wear. i want to try to replicate this look, but with tights & 86 the shades, since the party is at night.

i did it! ...with the help of boyfriend.

dough is one tough cookie. pun intended.

even though i followed this recipe to the tee, my dough ended up like falling apart. granted, i don't have a mixer, maybe that has something to do with it. but byofriend came to the rescue and helped me kneed it back together so we could cut out shapes to bake & decorate. of course, here in israel there are no cute, christmas-themed cookie cutters so i used stars & heart's.

this weekend boyfriend an i spent a few dollars and a few hours to turn our kitchen table from blah to blue. the boring wooden look had been bothering me for a while, but i didnt know what color i wanted to paint it. we finally went to the hardware store and found a grayish blue, almost violet color paint to transform our table.

i dont usually dress "girly," but this i think this outfit is exactly that. this skirt is one i scored at some random store here in israel for like 12 bucks and this top i fell in love with from forever 21. i would have never thought to pair the two together, but i think it works well....for a very feminine look. i tried toughening it up with black tights and black shoes from aldo. i also added an arm party & blazer to make it work (and weather!) appropriate.

been stuck at home sick for the past two days with a terrible sore throat and a throbbing head. the doc said it will take 2 days to get the results back from my throat swab. isn't that so 1990's? we're in the 21st century and it still takes 2 days to get results to know if i need to be on antibiotics or not? hmmm...

anyways, to brighten myself up ive been reminiscing about the trip boyfriend and i just got back from. here's the last batch of photos that i will post; these were taken on our 5-day getaway in cozumel, mexico. hope you enjoy!

just a quick 'lil outfit post of what i will wear to celebrate the last day of the work week tomorrow!

hooray for the weekend!!!

i scored this eccentric skirt at buffalo exchange in dallas, its a consignment shop that sells everything from halloween costumes to name brands. this skirt is from some boutique in LA from what i understand by the tag. i love the pattern and the purple. im really into purple right now. oh! and the pockets. love anything with pockets! anyways, i wanted to build the look around the skirt, so kept it simple with a white tee and tan tights and boots that my sister gave me. (i love you, mirelle!)

to dallas & beyond

so after our stop in amsterdam, we were off to dallas, where we seriously had the time of our lives. thats even an understatement! i was so ready to see my family and friends after not seeing them for a year & a half. uhhh! i hate the physical distance between us. i was also so proud to bring my boyfriend of 2+ years home to meet family and friends and to show off where i grew up. we shopped, lunched, went out, roadtripped it with my sister to visit our cousin in san marcos, where we met our brother and other cousin from austin. we were all over the place!

we also celebrated my 26th birthday, went to six flags, the state fair of texas, visited one of my best friends schools, where she teaches, so she could give a presentation on israel and have dekel answer 4th & 5th graders questions (it was too cute!). we indulged in way too much chilis. shopped way too much. caught up with old friends who i havent seen in like 3-4 years. cooked a glazed ham meal with mashed potatoes, buttered rolls, salad and champagne. loved on my sister/mom's puppies. hit up fort worth stock yards and the bishop arts district....the list goes on =)

in advance, we had booked a mini-getaway to cozumel, mexico where we enjoyed the luxury of all-inclusive drinks/meals/snacks/entertainment. it was literally our vacation while on vacation. we both caught a pretty good tan and met a cute newlywed couple from iowa who we buddied up with to shop downtown and have dinners with. so the mexico trip was a success!

all in all, it was a jam packed, fun-filled visit home. dekel enjoyed this time with my our family and friends just as much as i did. he bonded with my mom, brother and sister and fit in my circle of friends so well. again, i was so proud to bring him home and have everyone love him as much as i do.

anyways, we arrived back to israel last friday, after laying over in freezing/rainy amsterdam again, only it wasnt as fun as the first time because we knew our trip was coming to an end and did i mention it was freezing and rainy??? we were jetlagged for like a week, it could have been the depression of ending a vacation as well, but whatev. now, were back on track, back in school, back to our busy lives counting down until next september till we graduate and we can go on our next trip. were thinking thailand!!!!!!

since i dont want to throw up photos on this post, i thought i should break it down and post pics in order of destination.

we traveled to amsterdam, then to dallas, on to mexico, back through amsterdam and then "home" to israel. on our way to dallas, our layover in amsterdam was 10 hours. this gave us plenty of time to train it to the city center, pop in to one of those coffeeshops, walk around, sightsee and have lunch and a beer. then it was off to dallas.

i literally shopped till i dropped while we were in dallas.

for starters, i picked up this forever 21 dress, scored this $1 goodwill belt, got this white studded target cuff & these jessica simpson boots (from marshalls!).

i think this will be my 'back to work' look for tomorrow.

i dont even really know where to begin with this post or blogging in general. i thought of maybe throwing up pictures from our vacay, but before i do that, (pictures to come, i promise!) i would just like to thank my family and friends who made this visit home warm and fun for myself and for dekel. from the moment we arrived we were spoiled and it was unreal. almost too much. my mom was overly generous and it makes me miss her even more. it has been a struggle coming back to israel. i keep crying at random moments remembering our hugs and our laughs.

one more year of school to focus on. so for now, i am here.

but, for those family and friends reading, i we had the time of our lives. thank you.

boyfriend and i will be flying far next week.

our first stop is beautiful amsterdam:

where we will inevitably hit up one of the infamous cafes

then we are headed to good 'ol dallas, texas

where, no doubt about it, we will visit ft.worth

and college station, to visit my brother

we will surely make a trip to the state fair

and to six flags

then we planned for a 5 night stay in cozumel, mexico

that title makes me feel like i should bust out singing "barbie girl" by aqua. anyone? anyways, i am seeing glitter everywhere & have even started incorporating it into my wardrobe and makeup, either with an accented shimmer or a touch of sparkle eyeshadow. what are you guys up to this weekend? i have class again tomorrow and then will enjoy yummy shabbat dinner with dekel's family. saturday we will take advantage of the breakfast-for-two coupon my work gave me for my birthday this month. then we will be visiting a market near haifa to find some treasures to bring back home for my momma.

oh! wanted so see what you guys thought of this blouse i picked up today from golf. i love the pattern and the gray / navy tones with highlighter yellow mixed in. its also pretty long in length so could be worn with a tank underneath, belted, with tights as a tunic. very versitile. i picked up some bag tags as well, in anticipation of our upcoming trip!!! i think these are too cute. i remember seeing them at the container store, here, so when i found some today at golf i had to have them, even though they are not as funny as the container store versions....

an end to a great weekend

this weekend has been fantastic! it started out thursday night with a quick trip for some frozen yogurt with all the right toppings, then relaxing at home with some wine and my boy. friday after class, we hit up the beach with some friends and played in the waves. the water was not even cold, it felt so nice and the weather couldnt be better. i love the beach here. friday night we double dated to see "bad teacher." anyone seen it? it was pretty cute. it was kinda weird to see cameron diaz play such a different role. anyways, today i have been studying, in between tv watching breaks. i have marketing journal summaries due next week and a business with japan case study to read. oh, and not to mention a managerial economics assignment. fun stuff! no but really, i am enjoying my studies and cant believe that in one month we will already be completeing the 2nd semester. also in 1 month from today i will be on a plane with my man to visit home!! can't wait to see family & friends and do "dallas-y things," like hang out on greenville, shop at northpark, go to traders village in grand prarie, hit up addison. but most of all, i cant wait for the times when we will just be hanging out with friends & family, like at my grandparents house, or friends houses. those are the best!

i shopped at zara a few weeks ago & immediatly posted about this sparkly new sweater, but i never featured the skirt i got. its a maxi, which i am in love with. which i could wear everyday, all day. its slinky and soft, versitile and comfortable. it may seem boring in black, but that just makes it more slimming, i seriously love it! this skirt can easily be taken from day to night.

* it was somewhat akward looking for a photo of myself for this last challenge, even though i post photos of myself on here all the time....dont know why, so i opted for my facebook photo which has been my profile pic for some time. this photo was taken last june when one of my best friends was here visiting me and we went out to a club. my friend are i are not ones to party balls, but here in israel parties dont even begin until midnight or later, so we took an extra long time to get ready and drank some vodka, red bull while passing time and we ended up having a blast partying.
i really miss her.

i started my week off right with a fun dress. this dress is from marshalls, believe it or not, and cost like $15. its an amazing article of cloting in the fact that it IS an outfit in itself, just throw on a pair of sandals and you're done. it has a back cutout, which is eye-catching. it has pockets! and loose sleeves. and the pattern rocks. in other words, i love this dress and slipped it on sunday morning to kick off my week. i originally wore my hair down and wavy, but this sweet girl at work gave me a one minute updo. seriously it took her 1 minute to put my hair up and she used only bobby pins. i was impressed.

lately, dekel and i have been finding our date nights redundant. either we go to the same places or order the same cocktail. the conversation is always entertaining and since we have our trip coming up, we have lots to talk about and look forward to. but living in the northern part of israel, the pubs / restaurants are scattered and driving is not something either of us enjoys. ramat yishay is a neighborhood 10 minutes away from where we live, in tel adashim, and lo and behold a new wine bar open up. i met a friend there monday evening (she suggested the place) and after enjoying the atmosphere (and the wine!), i knew this was an optional new date spot.

so, dekel and i dressed up & went there last night (i forgot the name of the place) and ordered a bottle of gewürztraminer. the place is mellow with patio seating and a chef who comes to your table himself to tell you about the specials. we came with full bellies after shabbat dinner, but the wine hit the spot.

the most comfortable dress i own. i bought it last summer at marshalls in dallas and wore it to my best friends wedding rehersal. it has great sentimental value.

i am taking a quick break from my '10-day challenge' to post what i wore to work today. i was pretty proud that i could throw together a same-toned outfit and pull it off. i was told i looked "golden."

i bought these slacks from zara ~~a while back~~ 3 months ago and they were wayyy too long, even with stilts they wouldn't have touched the ground! no, but they seriously just sat in a bag in our car for one of us to take to the tailor. i finally got around to it and wore them for the first time today. i love the khaki color and structure of the pants, however the dang things stretched out and by the end of the day they were so loose, they felt uncomfortable. anyone know what im talking about? saggy butt, anyone? just me? ok.

i also just bought this irresistible off-the-shoulder sweater from zara (plus a few other items which i will post soon!) and it was just an item i couldn't leave without, despite the fairly high price tag. but it slightly sparkles and i love it.

my heels are from mango, purchased about a year ago, and i have worn them once. i wore them to work and forgot emergency flats and reminded myself why i always need to have a pair hidden under my desk. but boyfriend was sweet and gave me a foot massage when i got home.

im about to go meet up with a friend at a new wine bar in ramat yishay. i hope they have my fav, gewürztraminer.

simple summer dinner

in between studying for my next examcoming up on wednesday in behavioral sciences, i painted my nails, caught up on the amazing race, cuddled with dek and decided a simple summer dinner was in order. i dressed myself, because i was literally lazying around in my underwear, and went out to buy some greens and loaf of fresh french bread. after seeing this post, i knew i wanted to make little toasts and top them off with seasoned avacado and have a lemony salad on the side. the recipe called for crab meat, but since its hard to find here i skipped it and the toasts were still delish and light.

dekel and i are getting more & more antsy to fly to dallas (and amsterdam & mexico!) in two months and two weeks - yes, i am counting down- and we are thinking of all the little things we will want to buy for this travel adventure. like neck pillows, luggage tags, miniature toothbrush/paste, face wipes, lotions, etc...

but i found the perfect boarding pass/ passport holder so i can cross that one off my list =)

can you suggest any necessary items for traveling?

im thinking i will want to find a cross-body bag as well, to keep my hands free for suitcase carrying and hand holding. thiiiissss caught my attention & im sure it would get me stopped at the airport. just thought it was pretty funny (as long as there's really not a weapon in there!)

going home in september means saving money now for the shopping i will be doing then. but on friday i met up with a friend at a mall in haifa to lunch & browse and i couldn't help myself to a couple items.

i needed new sandals baaaaddd, so picked up these gold ones from h&m and the leopard ones from zara. the seafoam green tee was $5 from a new store called bershka. they had other cute things, but i am limiting myself =) the necklace was a perfect match for my gold sandals and scooped it up for like $3.

dekels became an uncle for the second time two days ago. his sister gave birth to a beautiful, healthy little baby girl, maya. we went to visit her at the hospital and could not stop ooohing & aweing over the tinyness of her little fingers and lips.

so my friends have come & gone and we had a blast.

but for now, i have to feature this amazing reddish orange dress that my friend shanna left for me to borrow until my visit home in september. ahhh, i forgot to mention that boyfriend and i have booked a trip home to dallas to relax for 3 weeks and for him to meet the fam & friends. and i forgot to mention that on the way there we chose to layover for like 9 hours in amsterdam. and i forgot to mention that while in dallas we are hopping to cozumel, mexico for a 5-day all inclusive mini vacay. in other words- we are so excited and already counting down the days! (plus, we will land in dallas on my birthday. it doesnt get better than this!)

anyways, back to the dress. it's a maxi which im loving and i love the deep v-neck and the ruffled, scrunched-in waist. it was perfect to throw on for class because i could sit cross-legged. i can never sit still in class...

i am on a high right now. being surrounded by friends is even more fun that i remember...that sounds sad, but i miss my besties and having a few here in my home and in my country makes me giddy. we/ they are traveling, experiencing new things, making tons of inside jokes and taking a buttload of pics that i will post as soon as i get my hands on them. but in the meantime, i will post this photo dekel took with his phone, it's the tucker for target dress i ordered here, and i wore it with heels to work and changed to sandals for class. isnt the burgendy color/ print great?

make salt scrub!

i have just been introduced to 'The Beauty Department' via this lovely lady. It is a fantastic, not to mention helpful, website!

seeing as i am burnt as a lobster (see previous post), i think i will whip up this super easy lemon salt scrub for when my entire body will start to peel.

it's so easy! sea salt + olive oil + lemon. (find the recipe here)

have you ever made a scrub?

a few years ago my friend marli made a scrub & packaged it in mini jars that she personalized as christmas gifts, i think she made it with brown sugar. yum!

anyways, my bestie molly is coming for a quick 2 week visit with her hubby, sammy, and this short trip will be jam-packed and fun-filled. i want to apoligize in advance for the lack of posts to come, but when a friend flys ~~6,969 miles~~ across the world to see you, priorties change. there will most definetly be an overload of photos and stories following her trip, so stay tuned! she is already learning about israeli culture and trying to pick up on some hebrew words / sayings and when we skype, she cracks me up! things just dont translate sometimes....

from fun to too much sun

friday started out with class...statistics to be exact, then i bussed it to the beach. i'll take you through the motions....

1. beach arrival

* this particular section of the beach is called "dado" and it's always happenin' with loud music, fresh juice / smoothie stands, dancing, people watching, ect.... we usually don't hang here, due to the excessive amount of children and lifegaurds screaming, but this is where the bus took me, so this is where i set up shop.

4. getting a little color already!

5. ending the beach trip with a strawberry / banana smoothie to cool myself down. it was hot as hell and i would later learn that i was burned to the max!

6. i dont know if you can tell, but i am lobster red, even my feet got burned!

i am home today from work, mad at myself for not using sunscreen or taking a break from sun-tanning because i can barely move. i cant wear clothes, my legs are swollen from my body trying to help the burn. i am in so much pain. anyways, the beach was fun, but i have learned a lesson. sunscreen. muy importante!

it's been a hectic week & it's going to get even more hectic, in a good way! next week my best friend & her hubby are coming to stay with us for 2 weeks! we are super excited and gotta clean the house and run some last minute errons. i love that because my bestie is coming to visit i have a reason to buy new wine glasses. ha!
